Grateful

I did not grow up in the US and have no childhood associations of Thanksgiving meals but I love the spirit of gratitude that it evokes in me and those around me. I feel grateful for the opportunities I have had to live life fully, for my wonderful close friends, and for my supportive family.

It turns out that a gratitude practice of identifying 3 new things each day that you are grateful for AND why for 21 days increases optimism*. The why is important to experience the full benefit of this practice. It sounds simple and makes intuitive sense. It probably won’t take more than 45 seconds each day. Can I do this while brushing my teeth every morning? Of course, but will I remember? The mind is already off planning the day or wondering what I should wear when I get to the tooth brushing part of my morning routine. I’m going to try starting tomorrow.

Would you like to join me in the 21-day gratitude challenge?
